EMVI TRAINING SESSIONS: WOMAN, LIFE, FREEDOM MOVEMENT
The EMVI training session on gender equality "The Woman, Life, Freedom Movement" focusing on the feminist struggle in Iran will take place Thursday, 11. 05. 2023, from 17:00 to 19:00, in the Info-office project space on Ulica Vide Pregarčeve 11, Ljubljana.
The training session is hosted by Iranian feminist activist Shiva Nazar Ahari, who has been living in Slovenia since 2019 as part of the ICORN program that offers refuge to writers and artists at risk. At the event, she will address the current situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Where are we 7 months after the murder of Mahsa Amini and the resulting feminist uprising in Iran? The Woman, Life, Freedom Movement - how it happened and where is it going? How has the government been cracking down on the Movement? How are women continuing the resistance by taking the struggle into daily life? What are our hopes and dreams for the future of this Movement?
Shiva Nazar Ahari is a leading human rights activist, feminist, and women's human rights defender who started her activism more than two decades ago in Iran. She is the founder of the Student Committee to Defend Political Prisoners and the Committee of Human Rights Reporters, which document and publicize the cases of political prisoners and report on human rights violations. After the death of Mahsa Amini, she co-founded the Committee to Follow up on the Status of Detainees that documents violations of human rights and supports the protestors who were arrested during the uprising. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of Zaagaah - a feminist collective focused on reproductive rights and reproductive justice. She has established the Women Audio Library, which makes audiobooks on the topic of women and gender studies.
