Stop zapiranju prosilcev za azil!
Izjava 11 priprith prosilcev za azil v Centru za tujce v Postojni
19.9.2020
Mnogi utrpevamo fizične in duševne bolečine, a deležni nismo nikakršne zdravstvene oskrbe.
Če nas deportirajo na Hrvaško, nas bo hrvaška policija pretepla, uničila naše telefone in pokradla naš denar in nas nato izgnala v Bosno in Hercegovino.
Smo električarji, vozniki taksijev, modni oblikovalci, delavci, prodajalci, maratonci - smo ljudje. Zahtevamo svobodo gibanja!

Stop the detention of asylum seekers!
Statement of 11 detained asylum seeker in detention centre in Postojna
19.9.2020
On Sunday (13. 9. 2020), we, a group of asylum seekers, started a hunger strike in the detention centre for foreigners in Postojna, which is a jail for people who committed no crime in Slovenia. Here we are being detained against our will. The state of Slovenia has no right to take away our freedom of movement.
The treatment of people inside the centre is degrading and humiliating. We are allowed only 1 hour per day to go out into the sun and fresh air, sometimes this free time lasts only 40 minutes. We are not allowed to leave the complex, we can only be in the courtyard. Many of us spent weeks in containers under the hangar, where police intimidated us with dogs. Even when they distribute food they bring dogs with them to scare us. Many of us are suffering from pains in our bodies and minds and there is no medical help provided to us. We get the same painkiller for stomach aches, headaches, skin allergies, or toothaches. Nobody will examine us. The social worker works also a nurse, provides clothes when possible and takes care of administration. Thus, the provisions of basic services are not being met.
Some of the police officers are racist; they insult us and do not treat us with respect. Many of the detained in Postojna do not receive any information about their procedures. We do not know if we will be transferred to a camp in Ljubljana or if we will be deported to Croatia in the morning. We stay in Postojna for months with no knowledge of where we will be the next day. If they deport us to Croatia, the Croatian police will beat us, destroy our phones and take away our money before they will push us to Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have the right to know what will happen to us.
Even the legal system is pushing us down and is not allowing us to claim our rights. Legal help is limited; many here are detained for weeks with no official decision and options here to contact anyone outside are minimal. When you are given the decision on your detention, your lawyer has only 3 days to make an appeal. After this deadline, to make an appeal is not possible.
The detention centre in Postojna is a lawless place. What happens to us is arbitrary. In the time this statement is being written, one of us was already deported to Croatia and is now in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one has had his appeal approved and was transferred to Ljubljana, and one has hurt himself in protest of the unjust detention in Postojna.
We are electricians, taxi drivers, clothes designers, workers, sellers, marathon runners - we are people. We are open-minded and peaceful but we demand fair treatment for everybody who is detained in Postojna. The regime of detention and the situation of uncertainty is killing our spirit and the people responsible for this situation want to take away our dignity. We will not allow this. We demand our rights to be respected! We demand freedom of movement!
