The Vital Role of Language Learning in Inclusion

The Slovenian Language Club, established in 2025 by the Intercultural Dialogue Society (MKD) in Ljubljana, focuses on practising spoken Slovenian in a group setting, with separate groups for A1 and A2/B1 language levels.

In May 2025, as part of the EMV-LII project, participants at different comprehension levels practised vocabulary related to key inclusion topics, such as the labour and housing markets and procedures at administrative units.

Since learning the local language is a central pillar of inclusion (a principle also recognised in the Slovenian Government's 2023 integration strategy) and is essential for bridging gaps between communities, there is a clear need to develop and implement complementary language-learning programmes in both the non-governmental and government sectors, especially since formal learning programmes are often insufficient.
