The Vital Role of Language Learning in Inclusion

Slovenian_Language_Club

Learning the local language is a crucial pillar of inclusion, a principle recognised by the Government of Slovenia in its 2023 integration strategy. As formal learning programs are often insufficient for language acquisition, there is a clear need to develop and implement complementary methods.

One such initiative is the Slovenian Language Club, established in 2025 by the Intercultural Society in Ljubljana. This club focuses on practising spoken Slovenian in a group setting, with separate groups for A1 and A2/B1 language levels.

On April 17, 2025, the Info Office migrant community, in collaboration with The Journal for the Critique of Science (ČKZ), discussed local frameworks for adequate housing in Slovenia, with a specific focus on migrants' housing conditions.

Migrant Voices on the New EU Pact: Challenging Colonial Narratives

On April 10 2025, Samer Arkawi hosted an assembly at the Info Office, bringing together members of the local migrant community to discuss the upcoming European Pact on Migration and Asylum, which is set to take effect in 2026. The gathering aimed to unpack the legal and practical implications of the new framework, with a particular focus on changes to asylum rights and the prospects for migrants' access to employment.

Kljub obstoječim pravnim osnovam za preprečevanje diskriminacije pa je obseg drugačne obravnave manjšinskih skupin v Sloveniji zelo problematičen (Bajt, Frank, Jalušič, & Ladić, 2023).

On November 28, 2024, investigative journalist Uroš Škerl Kramberger at the Info Office community space reported key insights from the regional training course Human Rights at International Borders: Exploring New Technologies, Their Risks, and Opportunities, hosted by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in October 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia.

Yurts as a Collaborative Community Effort

On October 3, 2024, a workshop, Every Stranger is the Most Welcomed Guest, by the architect Asel Yeszhanova, took place at the community space Info Office, Ljubljana. It focused on the Nomadic Yurt Project and the nomadic traditions that existed in Kazakhstan before the Soviet era. The discussion explored how these traditions had survived to the present day, how they had evolved, and how they were reflected in various arts and crafts.

The Nomadic Yurt Project aims to collaborate with local communities in building a yurt, as constructing one was a collective experience.

Advocacy Workshops on Inclusive School Meals and Vegan Options

KD Gmajna led a series of women’s advocacy workshops on Inclusive Education, Inclusive School Meals, which engaged and trained migrant women to speak up and organize around the issue of inclusive school lunches. The workshops emphasized the importance of ensuring that school meals equally consider the dietary requirements of children from diverse cultural backgrounds.
